Square Tree Kazak
Date (circa): 2nd quarter 19th century
Tree Kazak’s often have a rather weak range of colours, and a limited range. This example has a gloriously rich range of colours and is very nearly square. The tomato red field is framed by an abrashed green/blue main border, with highlights of yellow, burnt orange and light blue. Whimsically drawn and asymmetrical, I believe this kazak to be from the first half of the 19th century. In good pile, with some worn areas and ragged sides, this could easily be restored to usable condition for the floor or wall, although I recommend to leave it as is.
